Following the unrest in Washington, D.C. today, Jason J. McGuire, chairman of the Livingston County Conservative Party, made the following remarks:

“Conservatives have long known that there is a cancer in our culture, but today it broke out in a terrifying way.  I am troubled by the chaos at the Capitol we have witnessed. As Americans, we cherish our First Amendment rights of free speech and peaceful assembly, but there was nothing to cherish about the attack on the Capitol. Our party unequivocally condemns the use of unlawful violence and property destruction as a supposed form of speech.”

“We also advocate honest election processes and seek to hold the government accountable to the voices of the American people. But such efforts, made by those who speak out and protest lawfully, are seriously marred and undermined by violence and lawbreaking, including that which took place at the Capitol today.”

“Finally, I encourage prayers of safety and protection for the 1,000 New York National Guard members who’ve been called to the Capitol. Let peace, law and order prevail.”

“May God bless the United States of America.”
