Livingston County Conservative Chair Responds To Cuomo’s COVID-19 Requisition Order

Livingston County, NY – Earlier today, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that he is issuing an Executive Order authorizing the state to requisition ventilators and personal protective equipment (PPE) from institutions that have been proactively planning for this pandemic in their region and redeploy the resources to other hospitals with a more immediate need. The National Guard will be involved in the effort. Livingston County Conservative Party Chairman Jason J. McGuire offered the following response:
“On September 11, 2001 the world learned that New Yorkers are a resilient and compassionate people. From across the Empire State and around the nation citizens flocked to support New York City in its darkest hour. Not once did Gov. George Pataki have to order fire trucks to the smoldering remains of the Twin Towers. Never did he mandate that ambulances or construction vehicles make their way to Ground Zero. They came because we are one New York—and we stand alongside each other. That spirit is still with us today in this present pandemic. However, today’s pronouncement by Gov. Andrew Cuomo that he intends to seize ventilators from upstate hospitals and redirect them to downstate ones is a slap in the face to the spirit of 9-11. If you need our coat, we’ll give it to you and our shirt as well—but don’t presume that we need the heavy hand of the state to care for the most vulnerable among us. We’re better than this governor gives us credit for.”
