Conservative Party State Chairman Michael R. Long delivered to Senator Dean Skelos, Temporary President and Majority Coalition Leader, the first batch of Term Limit Petitions gathered by Party members and sent to Party headquarters by those who visited the website.
"Thousands of people have signed the petition that was posted on our website and distributed to our leaders in July after our renewed call for term limits in April and May during the legislative session," stated Long.
"As we stated in our letter to Legislators in July, the Conservative Party believes that government has grown too big and spends too much money and as a result, some politicians in Albany have lost sight of why they wanted to be involved in public service," Long told Senator Skelos when delivering the thousands of petitions.
Chairman Long reminded Senator Skelos that a vast majority of New Yorkers believe the time has come for term limits for all elected officials including the Governor, Attorney General, Comptroller and the Members of the Legislature and urged him to make the passage of term limits a priority when the legislative members return in January. (The Party's legislative platform has recommended 8 years [two terms] for the Executive Branch and a total of 8 years for Members of the Assembly and Senate.) Chairman Long said the Conservative Party continues to collect petitions on the website and by its leaders and plans to deliver more petitions when the legislators return to Albany. Chairman Long intends to continue to collect petitions until term limits becomes the law in New York State.
